COI

Also called: Certificate of Insurance · Insurance certificate

A one-page document proving the caterer carries general liability insurance and, on request, naming the venue as an additional insured.

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a standardized form (ACORD 25) showing your caterer's general liability coverage limits, policy number, and effective dates. Most professional venues require a COI naming them as additional insured before allowing service. A reputable food truck catering company carries $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate at minimum and can issue a COI within 24–48 hours of request. Asking for a COI on your initial inquiry is a fast way to filter serious caterers from hobbyists.
