Grilled Cheese in the Nation (GrubHub)

Meet Steven Weitzman

I'm Steven Weitzman, the founder and head chef of Grilly Cheese. I grew up in Philadelphia, went to Hunter College, and spent years working in kitchens before I decided to do my own thing.

In 2012, I launched Grilly Cheese with a simple idea: take the most universally loved comfort food — grilled cheese — and make it into something worth going out of your way for. No gimmicks, no pretense. Just really good sandwiches made with quality ingredients, served hot off the griddle.

The first few years were exactly what you'd expect. Long hours, tight budgets, and a lot of learning on the fly. I parked at street corners, showed up at small festivals, and said yes to every gig I could get. Slowly, word got around. People started calling about weddings. Then corporate events. Then bar mitzvahs, baby showers, retirement parties, and film sets.

How We Got Here

Over the past 13+ years, Grilly Cheese has catered more than 2,500 events across New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York, Delaware, and Maryland. We've served at backyard weddings and Fortune 500 campuses. We've fed film crews on set and showed up at midnight for after-party receptions.

In 2024, GrubHub named us one of the Top 6 Grilled Cheese spots in the entire country. That was a proud moment — not because of the title, but because it came from actual customers voting with their stomachs.

What hasn't changed is the approach. Every sandwich gets the same attention whether we're serving 30 people at a birthday party or 500 at a corporate campus. The bread is thick-cut and buttered fresh. The cheese is real. The griddle is hot. That's the standard, and we don't cut corners on it.
